Sunita's Biography
Sunita lives with her husband and two children in a small town near Tel Aviv in Israel, and teaches and performs throughout the country. She performs in Israel with the Ra'anana Symphonette, the Jacob's Ladder Folk Festival, and the Tel Aviv Irish Festival. In addition to public events Sunita performs at the American, British and Italian Embassies and Ambassadors' residences, and performs twice weekly at the Dan Accadia Hotel in Hertzlya. In addition to solo performances Sunita also performs in several duos including a harp duo with harpist Tali Glaser who is the second harpist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. She also performs with Gal Shahar in the the duo, Kinnovel, and in a duo with renowned clarinetist Mati Bobek.
Several time a year she tours internationally to present concerts, seminars and master classes.
Sunita Staneslow has played in concert halls and pubs from New Zealand to Tel Aviv. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, Sunita is classically trained although her passion is traditional music. She specializes in both Jewish and Celtic music and leads workshops for harpists throughout North America.
Sunita was named one of the top ten Jewish instrumentalists by Moment Magazine and she was a recipient of a 1998 McKnight Foundation Fellowship in recognition of her work with Jewish music. She has released 12 CDs on several labels of Jewish, Celtic and classical music and published twelve books of her arrangements of music for the harp. Sunita was a founding member of the innovative VIDA ensemble, which performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Sunita has performed with the Minnesota Opera, the Chicago Chamber Orchestra and performs and teaches and festivals and conferences in North America several times each year. She was the principal harpist for the Jerusalem Symphony during the 1986-87 season and currently performs with the Ra’anana Symphonette in Israel. In April of 2003, Sunita performed and taught at the Edinburgh International Harp Festival and she teaches frequently at the Island Mountain Arts summer harp camp in Wells, Canada.
