Harp Newsletter - May 2006 - Kfar Saba, Israel
also available at Sunita's web site

Dear friends & colleagues,

I just returned from the Jacob's Ladder Folk Festival at the Sea of Galilee. After five years of performing at the festival I took a sabbatical year and went only to visit friends and hear some great music. My husband and I arrived there after a beautiful drive up the Jordan Valley from the Dead Sea where I had given a concert and poolside performance at the Oasis Hotel. It was wonderful to luxuriate in the hot mineral waters at the hotel spa before driving north.

The big news this month is the harp arranging competition. I am hoping that the competition will stimulate new and interesting arrangements of traditional music for folk harp. A summary of the competition is below. Full details can be found on the competition web page at:

NEVEL: The Jerusalem Harp Network
becomes a non-profit organization

This wonderful organization, dedicated to helping alleviate pain and stress through the use of the harp, is now a registered Amuta (non profit org.) in Israel. Eight members have almost completed Laurie's Riley's qualifying course for harp therapists and several, including Sunita, perform for premature infants and hospice patients in two hospitals.

NEVEL has had two donations of harps and needs more instruments to place in hospitals for harpists and patients to use. Please consider a donation of funds or a harp to help these harpists fulfil their mission. Contact Sunita for more information
