Some NEVEL members teach harp to people from disadvantaged backgrounds, or with physical and/or emotional difficulties.
Learning the harp brings an opportunity not usually available to such people, and helps them rebuild emotional stability, acquire a skill, and develop greater self- confidence.
NEVEL's first special needs student was found through playing for a hospice patient, a woman who was dying from cancer. Her young son became enamoured of the harp and was gently guided towards creating a soothing sound on the strings as his mother passed away. It was his final farewell.
The boy later became a student of Sunita, with his harp and lessons subsidised by various donors in the USA and South Africa. The full story of this boy's participation in his mother's final journey can be found in Sunita's story of David.
If you would like to help support this program to help bring peace of spirit to youngsters in need, please contact Sunita. |
